In 2024, she made our community proud by participating in three remarkable marathon events: the Duxford Dash Half Marathon (UK), the Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes (France), and the Oxford Half Marathon (UK). Each race not only tested her endurance; but also showcased her commitment to charitable causes, underscoring her dedication to making a difference both locally and globally.
The Duxford Dash Half Marathon
Held annually at the Imperial War Museum Duxford in Cambridgeshire, UK, the Duxford Dash Half Marathon is a unique 13.1-mile race that weaves through historic airfields and aircraft exhibits. On April 7, 2024, Avinder joined thousands of runners to embrace this exhilarating blend of history and athleticism. Her participation helped raise funds for the British Red Cross, an organisation providing crucial humanitarian aid worldwide. This inspiring event highlighted how individuals can come together to promote fitness, history, and philanthropy in one memorable experience.
The Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes
Avinder's journey continued in France with the Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes on November 3, 2024. This prestigious marathon covers a scenic 42.195 km (26.2 miles) stretch along the stunning Mediterranean coastline, starting from the Promenade des Anglais in Nice and finishing on the Boulevard de la Croisette in Cannes.
Her efforts were part of a larger mission to support SOS Children’s Villages, an international organisation dedicated to providing family-like care for children in need. The breathtaking views of the French Riviera and the uplifting camaraderie of the runners made this race an unforgettable chapter in her journey.
The Oxford Half Marathon
Back in the UK, Avinder's charitable streak shone through at the Oxford Half Marathon on October 13, 2024. This 13.1-mile route took runners through the historic city of Oxford, passing iconic landmarks like Old Marston Village, the River Cherwell, and Lady Margaret Hall.
She joined hands with Cancer Research UK and Great Ormond Street Hospital to raise awareness and funds for critical health initiatives. The event’s collective impact was astounding, with participants raising over £95,000 for various charitable causes, making her contribution part of a truly transformative effort.
